Assist Combos (Sephiroth)
Basic Combos (Sephiroth AST)
![]()
◆ Basic Combos
Basic combos are simple combos with fewest conditions.
- Can be performed from most positions, or with Wall Rush
- Require no adjustments, or very few simple adjustments
- Intended for players new to the game, or the character

| Ground combo from Onion Knight's main ground bravery. Onion Knight typically uses HP links, but the bravery followups can deal decent bravery damage. These can be useful for ensuring a bravery break (especially in EX Mode), but otherwise they are outclassed by HP links and high base BRV builds. |

Blade Torrent is risky to use in neutral, but it leads to an assist combo regardless. Opponent must be very close to wall for the Wall Rush, which makes this a less practical combo starter at higher levels of play.
If you're a new player, try this combo in a small stage like Pandaemonium or Phantom Train. The basic idea of Wall Rush > Assist remains the same. |

Core Combos (Sephiroth AST)
![]()
◆ Core Combos
Core combos balance potency with consistency.
- They work against most characters in the game
- May require adjustments due to position, assist, resources or builds
- May require combo fillers during assist
- May require different combo enders from basic combos
- Are expected to be consistently performable by most intermediate and advanced players who main the character
Onion Knight's main combos are relatively straightforward. The only thing that's really added are Strength Boosters as combo fillers. Thunder > Flare HP link is also listed here, as Onion Knight typically relies on his air braveries to fight.

Opponent Assist (Comrade's Vow): 132 |
EX Force (Breakdown): 21 > 45 > 21 > 45 |
| This is Onion Knight's staple combo in mid level and high level play. The main difference here is using Strength Booster during Sephiroth assist to raise Onion Knight's physical damage and critical hit rate. If Strength Booster is done very late, Onion Knight must dodge cancel it, so he does not miss Assist Chase. |

EX Force (Breakdown): 3x3 > 96 > 21 > 45 |
Thunder is occasionally used as a midrange poke, but it does not hit moving opponents easily. If it hits, this combo can be done almost anywhere. Flare generates more EX Force than Guiding Swipe, which can be good for EX Cores and builds using Heaven's Cloud ![]() . |

Specialized Combos (Sephiroth AST)
![]()
◆ Specialized Combos
Specialized combos are advanced routes which require more knowledge and awareness, but offer advantages over core combos.
- Can have any number or combination of requirements and conditions; Character, position, resource, or specific situation
- Offers some advantage over core combos; Damage, wall carry, meter gain, more lenient positioning, safety against LV2 Assist Change etc.
- Might not necessarily be harder than core combos, but require more specific circumstances and knowledge to execute
This is where Onion Knight can utilize Sephiroth's lockdown potential to do knockback cancels. These combos don't necessarily do more damage, however. The laxed positioning requirement is the main benefit. Onion Knight must have assist gauge already to do knockback cancels, so he cannot always do them.

◆ Extra Combos
Extra combos are miscellaneous routes that are possible, but are not necessarily stronger or easier than other combos.
- May have any number or combination of requirements and conditions; Character, position, resource, or specific situation
- May provide more advantage, or less advantage than other combos
- May be more difficult than other combos
- May require more specific circumstances execute
The following combos are similarly routed, but don't always see much use in competitive play. Knockback cancels, Blizzaga dodge cancels and Assist Storage Glitch all see use here. These combos are not weak in isolation, but the conditions to do them make them harder to use in multiplayer. For example, Onion Knight's Blizzard is not a move he lands very often.

Knockback cancel combo. If Onion Knight does not need the assist gauge from the last Blizzaga hit, this is also ok. It might be easier to time than a quick dodge cancel into assist.
Call assist when the second Blizzaga hit connects. Sephiroth should hold the opponent in place when Blizzaga finishes. |
