Overview

Firion mainly uses Side by Side accessory_special.png builds to capitalize on his strengths as an HP linker. Most of his attacks don't generate much EX (or none), so the competitive multiplayer builds tend to focus on assist, high base bravery and HP Wall Rush damage instead.

Firion typically uses Auto Assist Lock On extra ability. This is because Firion relies on Straightarrow a lot, and this ability lets Firion realign to the opponent's assist if they try to interrupt it. Make sure to not release Straightarrow too early, or the assist hits anyway. Also, if Straightarrow reaches maximum charge time, Auto Assist Lock On will not save him no matter what.

Build Overview

This is a Side by Side damage build centered around high base bravery. Side by Side gives a chunk of assist gauge for doing HP damage, which lets Firion use Kuja assist more often. Whenever Firion gets an HP Wall Rush with Straightarrow or Double Trouble, he can deal over 2000 HP damage. A single Double Trouble Kuja assist combo ranges between 4,130 - 4,712 HP damage. This depends on Firion's combo route, but three assist combos are often enough to win. Since Firion gets HP attacks from his ground braveries and any Straightarrow that hits, he can deal lots of damage quickly. This is true for any character that uses this build such as Golbez, but Firion benefits from it regardless.

The booster accessory multiplier is at x4.6 with Opponent Summon Unused accessory_booster.png. If opponent does not have a summon equipped, the maximum multiplier is x3.5.

Damage Numbers

This is intended to serve as reference for damage potential. Base bravery ignores opponent's DEF stat, so the damage is relatively consistent. These numbers are based off of quick research against LV100 Gabranth with Genji Shield, Genji Helm and Genji Armor.

HP: 10,299. BRV: 996. ATK: 108. DEF: 183.

Please note, that if the opponent has higher DEF, Firion does less BRV damage. The overall HP damage will naturally be slightly reduced as a result.

WR = Wall Rush

Straightarrow (Wall Rush)
1623 + 627 (WR)
1623 + 486 (WR, no Sniper Eye accessory_basic.png)
Lance Combo > Double Trouble (Wall Rush)
1751 + 677 (WR)
1751 + 524 (WR, no Sniper Eye accessory_basic.png)
Lance Combo > Double Trouble (WR) > BRV Kuja Assist > Straightarrow > Weaponsmaster
4,130 HP damage, 401 BRV damage. Needs to be near walls to be
Must be near wall for Weaponsmaster to do more damage with Wall Rush.
Lance Combo > Double Trouble (WR) > BRV Kuja Assist > Rope Knife > Double Trouble (WR)
4,717 HP damage, 453 BRV damage
This assumes Rope Knife knockback cancels Kuja assist last hit.

This combo can be done midscreen, so it's a bit less demanding on positioning. The drawbacks can be seen as negligible; It can be a bit more difficult to do for max damage specifically. The lack of Straightarrow filler means two things: This combo has lower critical hit rate and less meter depletion overall. If you don't mind a slight BRV damage loss from doing Rope Knife earlier during Kuja assist, this combo still does more damage than the Weaponsmaster finisher without Wall Rush. At 10,299 HP, doing this assist combo two times is enough for the next HP attack to end a match. That is, unless the opponent invests into higher max HP...

Adjustments

5 capacity points are available, which is not enough for substantial changes. If you want to make room for something else, try removing the following:

Speed Boost++ (+30)
Faster run speed is nice for Firion, but not mandatory to be a threat.

Most of this build is set up specifically around high base bravery. That means Sniper Eye accessory_basic.png, Bravery Orb accessory_basic.png and Machinery should not be removed. This build also assumes Kuja assist is used. With that in mind, please note that Straightarrow (Wall Rush) > Air BRV Kuja assist > Assist Chase > Weaponsmaster barely reaches base bravery for Weaponsmaster. Changing certain accessories can alleviate this slightly, so adjust the build at your discretion.

Substitutes
Equipment / Ability Substitute Notes
Omni Ground Dash Ground Dash Ground Dash lets Firion fill assist gauge when he approaches. This assumes that Assist Gauge Up Dash ability remains equipped. If Firion does not need directional dashes to move around a stage or create space, this is a reasonable trade-off.

Spot dashing becomes more viable on the ground as well.

Lance Combo + Double Trouble Reel Axe + Double Trouble Reel Axe can function as a mixup to Rope Knife, and break through blocks. Generally risky when used, worth consideration.
Dismay Shock accessory_basic.png Free Choice No need for EX depletion when fighting other Side by Side users, such as Golbez, Kefka and Zidane.

Blue Gem accessory_special.png for higher base BRV (damage increase), Together As One accessory_special.png for initial assist gauge and Back-Breaking Straw accessory_special.png are all good picks.

A booster accessory accessory_booster.png is also ok. In that case, Large Gap in HP, HP < 50 % or After 30 Seconds can work. This is a flexible slot, so use whatever works for you.

Opponent Summon Unused accessory_booster.png Free Choice If the opponent is expected to not have a summon equipped, this is another flexible slot.

Build Overview

Recommended for EX oriented characters, such as Gilgamesh, Vaan and Yuna.

This build lets Firion fill EX gauge and adjust his follow-ups depending on his needs. Wild Rose's exceptionally high ATK (+70) makes Firion's Punch follow-up ddff-icon-button-circle.png a bit more viable for damage. Seal of Lufenia special effect ensures Double Trouble into BRV Kuja assist combo deplete opponent's EX gauge by a lot. On the other hand, Firion has to grab EX Cores to fill EX gauge consistently. And of course, filling assist gauge takes longer with Swordslash and dashing. Compared to a Side by Side build, Firion needs more time and successful interactions to reap the rewards. If a match goes on long enough, Firion can eventually take advantage of his EX mode perk Blood Weapon. It is not recommended to consider this Firion's main goal, but a secondary goal with long term benefits.

Avoid using this build against Side by Side users, such as Firion, Onion Knight, Golbez, Kefka, Zidane and Jecht. It is better to consider this build for characters who are more EX oriented. But even then, it can take more work to succeed than with a Side by Side build.
