Dash feint, also known as spot dashing, is a technique in Dissidia 012 that exploits an early input window during block to cancel into a dash. This can be done repeatedly in quick fashion.
How to perform
All characters can perform this, as long as they have a ground / air Block and a manual Dash ability equipped. For example, have Ground Block, Midair Block and Free Air Dash equipped. This technique can be performed before a dash, or after it.
- Press R
. Keep holding R. - Now press Triangle
right after inputting R. Do not press both buttons at the same time. It should be a sequence instead. You have 2 frames to time this input at 30 FPS, the game's frame rate. - You have now cancelled a block into a dash. Repeat as necessary.
About the Timing (Frame Rate, for Veteran Players)
Historically this has been treated as a 4-frame timing, mostly because Dissidia 012's frame data has been documented at 60 frames per second. Dissidia 012 primarily runs at 30 frames per second though; In-game replay function reveals that a dash feint can happen 2 frames after the block (which is frame 1). This may not mean much in practice, as the required timing is still quick and precise.
Applications
- Filling Assist Gauge
- Dash feint allows a player to maintain their current position while filling assist gauge with the basic ability "Assist Gauge Up Dash". This is one of the safest ways to fill assist gauge in high level play. An attack must still be performed to prevent assist gauge decay; Dashing does not count as an attack, so the assist gauge will not remain filled for long.
- Offensive Pressure
- Dash feint allows a player to realign with Free Air Dash, which is effective against aerial dodges. This means players can apply offensive pressure by threatening with a dodge punish.
- Due to its repeatable and ambiguous nature, this technique can also be used to delay approaches. This can confuse opponents who are trying to retaliate early.
- Defense
- Repeated dash feints means the player is also blocking attacks for at least 1 frame per dash feint. This can make it harder for opponents to attack into the player safely.
- Faster Movement
- A dash slows down as it ends. This technique lets the player perform another dash sooner and benefit from the burst of speed.
With Omni Ground Dash / Omni Air Dash, dash feint causes the character to dash forward, while staying at the same height. It does not fill assist gauge.
