Matchups

Generally speaking Tifa can compete against characters with conventional close range strategies near the ground. However, she can struggle to approach against characters with lingering projectiles (Garland) and traps (The Emperor). Ultimecia is a combination of both, with relatively good zoning too.

Air-centric matchups can prove to be difficult too (e.g. Sephiroth), if not for average poking, then lackluster reward on hit. Tifa doesn't have many winning matchups, but she does fight well on the ground. If she can rely on it or alternate between ground and air combat such as against Firion, Jecht and Cecil, she is in a good position to make big plays.

Tifa has no easy way to bypass Garland’s Cyclone HP. Aerith's Seal Evil BRV assist gets around it with ease.
